Household appliance contracting in Flanders

Brugge, Belgium Climate sustainability, Financial incentives

Description

In the Flanders region of Belgium, a community-building organization – Samenlevingsopbouw West-Vlaanderen[1] – offers a very interesting contracting scheme. Instead of buying household appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, and washing machines, people in energy poverty can rent them under a 10-year contract, including service and warranty. In already energy-efficient buildings, appliances often offer an additional optimization potential for the environment and the household economy.
