UNECE Ministerial Meeting on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management

The UNECE Ministerial Meeting on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management on “Affordable, adequate, and resilient housing in liveable cities, including cities which face extreme weather conditions” took place at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, on 6 and 7 October 2021, as part of the eighty-second session of the Committee on Housing, Urban Development and Land Management (6-8 October 2021).

The Ministerial Meeting and the eighty-second session of the Committee supported regional exchange of experiences and good practices for promoting access to decent, adequate, affordable and healthy housing as part of the countries’ response to and recovery plans for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministerial Meeting launched a report of the study “#Housing2030:  Improving Housing Affordability in the UNECE Region” which has been developed by UNECE in cooperation with Housing Europe and UN-Habitat; and to endorse a regional action plan for the UNECE region “#Housing 2030: promoting sustainable housing as part of the recovery and rebuilding plans after the COVID-19 pandemic”.

To give you a taste, the report looks at more than 160 successful case studies from Europe and beyond, providing a rich toolbox to governments to adapt housing systems to local needs. Find the report here.
